Break these laws at your own peril. Penalties run from a kick to a permanent ban, according to harm done.

I do not referee revenge, rage, or griefing between players. Protect what you value. If a behavior threatens the server’s availability or the public square, I will act. For everything else: I prefer that players resolve conflict among themselves.

What follows are laws that, when broken, will be dealt with if the offense is reported to me, or when I happen to discover it. Each law includes a description of the likely consequence.

Section A: The Public Square

No spam. Keep public chat usable, or a gag will perform the service for you.
No propositions or dating talk in public; that stays in a private channel. Punishment will be a temp ban.
Do not promote perversions, fetishes, or kinks in the public chat. Temp ban, but probably longer!
Do not excessively cuss in public. Shout may be revoked.
No doxxing and no threats of doxxing. Real-world harm is not in-game PvP. Permanent ban.
Political argument is allowed. Keep it civil: no slurs as a habit, no calls to riot or loot, no blaming a people for your private grievances, and no sexual content dressed up as politics. If you cannot make the point without a mob or a slur, take it to PM or take it elsewhere. If it gets too heated, there could be a mass toading.

Section B: Citizenship

Do not ask for privileges or free stuff. Everyone must get their own stuff. Punishment: being ignored.
Do not ask to be staff. There are no formal staff, and only one Archwizard. Punishment: same as above.
Don’t hammer the server, unless you enjoy getting your IP banned.
Do not cheat using a modified or unofficial client. I have creative ways to punish cheaters. Ways that historically have tended to result in a self-ban.
Do not exploit a dupe bug if you find one. Report it to me instead. I appreciate honesty and there will probably be a reward NOT involving lava. Conversely, if I catch someone exploiting a dupe bug and they have not reported it to me, there will also be a reward, and it will DEFINITELY involve lava.
No begging. Citizens must be able to take care of themselves. The punishment is built-in: you won’t learn how to survive the server.

Section C: The Ice

Unprotected builds may be griefed. PvP is always on. If you want a padded room, this is not it.
Do not build over other players without permission. Offending protector blocks will be removed and not returned.
No skybridges, floating towns, or 1×1 towers. They will be dropped or grounded, often without a ticket. This rule does not apply to Ir-Xen. In Ir-Xen, the rule is: do not build too close to other players without agreement.
Do not undermine a build so that it hangs in air. You may discover lava in your base on a later occasion.
Do not build structures that celebrate killing people, push drugs, or are built to shock the public square. >:| Structures of this nature are subject to being trashed by a coterie of elite dungeon masters (EDMs).
Do not serially kill the same player over and over again on the same day. I might log in and use /kill on you.

The First Cheater

Sometime shortly after the founding of the Surface Colony back in 2016, a hardened cheater surfaced. The server logged evidence of ore-leeching† and ghosting‡. Upon her discovery by the admin, Melanie (that cheater!) was promptly sent to the place where kindling wood ain’t needed. (She rage-quit quite soon afterward.) Here, in the Nether City, lie the ancient bones of Melanie, the server’s first client-side hacker. Let cheaters take warning.

Citizens in good standing can see these bones for themselves by visiting the Nether City, as they have been memorialized.

† The act of mining ores at range without first mining the rock around them in order to search for the goods. A very destructive behavior, but fortunately it also happens to be very easy to detect. Don’t try this anywhere!

‡ In the usual lingo, means use of noclip. This is generally nothing more than an annoyance and would not (by itself) have resulted in banishment to the realm of fire.
